Multi-player tips for Call of Duty 4

August 3rd, 2008

Would you like to dominate Call of Duty 4’s multi-player battlefield? Here are a couple of tips and tricks that should help you do just that…

Be aware of your environment

When you are covering yourself from enemy fire, make sure the material you are covering yourself with is solid enough to protect you. Try not to hide behind drywalls or wood walls because most weapons will pierce right trough it. The same goes for enemy combatants, if you notice they’re waiting for you at the top of the stairs, try to shoot trough the floor if your weapon is strong enough to pierce trough.

Use support

When you are able to gun down a certain amount of opponents without dying, you will be able to call air support. If you kill 3 opponents without getting shut down, you will be able to call up 30 seconds of UAV Recon (radar) for your entire team. If you can kill 5 opponents without going down, you will be able to call an airstrike anywhere on your map and if you can go on for 7 kills, you will be able to call in support from a Helicopter that will cover you and take down any opponent on your path.

Know your battlefield well and communicate with your teammates

Knowing your way through the 16 different battlefields will be useful when comes the time to work as a team with your other partners. If you and your partners have good communication and knowledge of the battlefield, you will be able to pinpoint your enemies’ position better.

Stay discrete

It’s very important to be discrete in Call of Duty 4. If you have the possibility to kill one of your opponents without making a sound, use your knife instead of your rifle. It will prevent you from appearing on your enemy’s radar.

Always stay in movement

You should never stay in the open while you are in the battlefield, especially after you have made a kill. After you kill an enemy combatant, its allies will converge to the area; so use your sprint wisely. Don’t sprint every time you have to go from a spot to another, only use it when you quickly have to run for cover or if you have to go through a dangerous area.

There are many other tips and tricks that can help you improve your skill level at Call of Duty 4, but these tips should help you start in the right track; but if I could give you only one piece of advice, it would be to practice against opponents of your level before you step up to the big boys…

Halo 3 tips for newbies

June 4th, 2008

Halo 3 is one of the best games to play online, but it can quickly become frustrating for people who are new to the game but would still like to get in the action. Here’s a couple of tips that should help any newbie become a better Halo 3 player.

How to use Grenades

Most players disregard grenades in combat. Grenades are one of the best ways to clear the scene before you attack. Make sure you don’t throw the grenades directly at your opponents. Try to throw them close to their location and use the grenade to limit your enemy’s movement options.

Reload often

Reloading during a battle can be deadly, so try to reload every time you have the chance. If you don’t have the choice, try to take cover when you are reloading so that you won’t get hit in the process.

Use your radar

It’s very important to keep an eye on your radar at all times. You don’t need to look at it constantly, but you have to be aware when little red enemy dots appear on it. Keep in mind that ducking and standing still will make you invisible to the radar, so use these functions properly.

Know your weapon’s range

Knowing your weapon’s range is very important in Halo 3. Some weapons, like the shotgun, are very ineffective at long range but are really efficient at close range. Knowing your weapon’s range will give you a big advantage on your opponent if he doesn’t know his. You will be able to gain the upper hand on certain opponents simply by keeping them at a good distance.

Know how your shield works

Ducking during a battle to recharge your shield can make the difference between life and death. If your shield is low, it’s better to run away, reload your shield and come back to finish your fight; unless your opponent less shield than you. In this case, you can go in for the melee kill.

Know what weapon is being shot at you

The best way to recognize from what weapon you are being shot at is by sound. You should always keep the sound up when you are playing Halo 3 so you can tell exactly what type of weapon is being used against you and evaluate the risks associated with it.

Halo is one of these games that you can play for years without even scratching the surface of all the tactics that can be used, but these few tips should help steer you in the right direction.

Six basic tips for Super Smash Bros Brawl

April 29th, 2008

Super Smash Bros Brawl is finally here. The eagerly awaited sequel to Super Smash Bros and Super Smash Bros Melee has kept all of the elements that made the franchise so successful in the past. While skilled players will pick up SSBB quickly, it will be a bit more difficult for first time players. Let me give 6 initial tips that should help new comers get a fast grip of SSBB’s ins and outs.

Break the Smashball at the right time

A new feature in SSBB are the final smashes. Final smashes are a kind of finishing move that can be achieved by breaking the Smashball when it appears. Most people will rush to hit the Smashball as soon as it appears. Wait until your opponent rushes towards the Smashball and hit him while he is wide open, you will then be in the perfect position to give him a final smash.

Use your jumps carefully

Too much people make the error of using all of their jumps at the same time. The best way to use your jumps is when you are at the lowest point possible or when someone is trying to hit you in mid air. Using all of your jumps at the same time will leave you open while you come back to the ground.

Don’t use the WIImote

The WIImote is extremely inefficient with SSBB. The game’s quick movements can just not be made by twisting and turning the WIImote in all directions. It’s better to stick with the WIImote + Nunchuck combination or the classic Game Cube controller.

Forget L-cancelling and wavedashing

L cancelling and wavedashing have been removed from SSBB, so there will be a learning curve for the people that were used to these techniques in the previous versions. You will have to rely much more on your short hopping and fast falling skills in SSBB.

Forget the shield

The shield drops much faster in this version of Super Smash Bros, so your options are no longer just to grab or keep the shield up until it breaks. Learn how to use your quick blows after you drop your shield.

Brawl is not Melee

Many modifications were made to this version of Super Smash Bros, so don’t make the mistake of playing this game the way you used to play Melee. This version seems a lot more technical, and it should be since it’s the first next gen console version of the game. So make sure you explore all of the game’s techniques and characters.

So have fun playing the wonderful game that SSBB is and remember that you can never learn enough about the game, so keep practicing until you become the undisputable Super Smash Bros Brawl King!

7 basic BioShock tips

April 12th, 2008

BioShock can look like any other first person shooter at first sight, but it is much more complex than it may seem. Let me give you some tips and tricks that should help you get trough BioShock a lot more easily.

Choose the right ammo

Choosing the right ammo is very important in BioShock. The machine gun and pistol use three types of ammunition: anti-personnel, anti-armor and regular. The anti-personnel and anti-armor ammo is much rarer then regular ammo. In the beginning, I suggest you keep your anti-armor and anti-personnel to fight Big Daddies only. As for shotguns, they are not as useful as the may seem. I usually only use them with Electric ammo to stun some Big Daddies or to take out security cameras.

Do not discard your wrench

Even though it’s the first weapon you start with, your wrench can be useful even at the end of the game. The key is to use tonics that would make it more powerful. And also remember that you can combine the effects of two similar tonics if you use them in different slots.

Use hacking tonics

If you’re like me, and you hate the hacking mini game, I suggest you put a couple of hacking tonics into your engineering tonic slots when you can. It will make it go much faster. Tonics will only get you so far though, so you will have to practice your hacking skills.

Learn how to use the Vita Chamber

Instead of reloading your game each time you die, you should learn how to use the Vita chamber. Sometimes, it can be better to die and reload the game, but it is sometimes better to respawn in a Vita Chamber. Just choose carefully which option is better for you.

How to deal with Splicers

Head shots are the best way to get rid of pesky Splicers. The best ammo to use when it comes to Splicers is antipersonnel ammo. If you are running low on these, and you are facing Thug or Houdini Splicers, it’s better to dodge their melee attacks and use your wrench.

How to deal with Big Daddies

When you are facing Big Daddies, remember that explosives are very effective against them. Use proximity mines or grenades if you want to cause some serious damage. The most effective weapon against Big Daddies is the Grenade Launcher loaded with Heat-Seeking missiles. When you are facing a Bouncer, try to side step when they charges you, it will give you a few extra seconds to give him a good blow. If you are facing a Rosie, make sure you take cover from their rifles and only shoot back at them when they cease fire.

Have fun

Learn how to appreciate the game and fully explore all of its possibilities. The more you learn about the enemies, weapons and levels, the more you are going to like the game. Don’t take this game as just another Duke Nukem look alike.

I hope these tips will help make your quest a bit easier… Do not forget to study all of the elements of the game fully so you will be able to truly master BioShock and take advantage of its multiple facets.

Adventure Video Game Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Review

September 25th, 2007

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is by far one of the best Zelda games that has ever been released, and was Zelda’s introduction to the 3 dimensional world of gaming. This game was originally released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) but has been released on the Wii Virtual Console so that it may be enjoyed again with cleaner and better looking graphics and a smoother frame rate to accommodate the extra power offered by the Wii gaming console.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has a rich story which really does truly make it one of the best. Its release on the Wii gaming console is proof positive that this game truly has stood the test of time, and is still extremely popular among gamers old and new. The story is amazing, beginning with the introduction of a boy without a fairly, which is our protagonist. Link is the famed hero of Hyrule who begins as a small boy, but eventually grows into an adult who is able to beat the evil King known as Ganondorf.

The game play is awesome in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game play is absolutely flawless in many different ways, and it includes a really great Z-Target system. No matter how often you play, the battles in this game never feel old or stale. The dungeons and the field are both amazing, and everything really seems to click together in this game. There really is no way you could dislike the game play. The Z-Target combined with the C buttons make Zelda both enjoyable and fun to play. I have played this game several times through and I still enjoy playing through all of the dungeons and the other various areas in the game. It really does never get old.

The graphics in this game truly have aged beautifully, as every aspect of the game still looks beautiful today as ever. Back when the game was first released, the graphics were stunning and ten years later, even the 3-dimentional aspects of the game still look decent, which is a testament to true graphic quality. There are some graphical improvements devised for the Wii release, but much of the game is still original.

The one downside to the release of the game is that the Wii Classic controller really does not work well with this game. Unless you are using a controller designed for the Nintendo Game Cube, you will likely have problems with this aspect of game play. With the Wii Classic controller, the C buttons have been moved to a right analog stick, which does not work well for this game, since song composing and weapons control are both guided by the C-buttons. If you want to play this game on the Wii, your best option is to use a Game Cube controller, because the game was originally designed for use with Nintendo 64 controllers and not necessarily for the Wii Classic Controller.

The play time and replay value for this game are both phenomenal. For a first time gamer, it should take around twenty hours for this game to end. On the other hand, if you strive for a 100-percent completion, it will take more like thirty hours to complete the game. No matter how many times you play the game, it really never does get old. Personally, I go through the entire game for 100-percent completion about five times a year at least, and I will probably continue to play it pretty much forever. As you get better at playing the game you may find yourself beating it faster, but no matter how good you are it is still a nicely drawn out game with plenty of play time. It is very rare to find a game that you can play and play over and over again without getting sick of it, but this truly is one of those games, as long as you enjoy Zelda or similar game play.
