Computer Games: World of Warcraft Review
August 25th, 2007World of Warcraft or WoW for short, is an MMORPG or a Massive Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game. Many of the features of a role playing game have been gaining popularity for ages, including leveling up, collecting experience points, collecting items like weaponry and other equipment and even defeating evil monsters. All of these same traditions are also present in the world of World of Warcraft, which is a great new addition to the world of addictive role playing games.
It only takes a couple of days of play time to truly make you addicted to this game. It took less than four days to have me completely hooked, and all I think about now is my night elf druid character that I have been leveling up as much as possible in the past few days. Before you purchase this game there is something that you absolutely must keep in mind: If you buy this game, there is a really good chance that you will be addicted pretty much forever.
Graphics — Even if the graphics in World of Warcraft are not as good as Guild Wars or Everquest II when it comes to technical aspects, the art and design present in the game more than make up for graphics that may appear outdated. The world in this game looks truly amazing, with unique trees, monsters and houses. No two locations look the same, so there are many different styles of houses, trees, monsters and other graphics in the game which makes landmarks easy to spot and recognize, which makes getting around much easier.
Sound — The sound in the World of Warcraft is recorded extremely well, with sound effects being used at all the appropriate times, ranging from the perfect metallic sound as a sword hits a wilder beast, or the gentle padding of feet as they step over a cobblestone road. The background music in the World of Warcraft is also extremely well done, including the soft chirping of birds and the music played when you move from town to down. A lot of the sound effects used in this game have been taken from Warcraft III, which is not necessarily a bad thing, just something which surprised me.
Value — World of Warcraft offers a large of amount of value to all of its players, regardless of whether they are new players on level one, or seasoned players with Level 60 characters. You can easily grow attached to the character that you play and all of the items that your character has, which makes it easy to regard your character and his or her items as if they were real. World of Warcraft really allows you to immerse yourself in a unique world, giving you a true sense of excitement and a sense of adventure which is something that everyone craves deep down. You can play World of Warcraft for ages, since the world never ends and it truly is difficult to get sick of the game play.
Game Play — The game play in World of Warcraft is turn-based in the same way that other RPGs are. The action is not slow in WoW like it is in many other RPGs however, because you will be constantly commanding your character to perform different tasks and spells. The game play for World of Warcraft is extremely easy and straight forward, and anyone who is new to the game can easily learn it simply by asking around or by watching other players.
Conclusion - Wow costs around $15 a month which can be a little steep considering that it is just a single game, but Wow is truly a great game that is worth the cost involved with it. If you are looking for a game that is a little friendlier to your budget, Guild Wars might be your thing. But if you can spare the extra $15 dollars a month to play World of Warcraft, you will definitely be glad that you did. Everyone on WoW will be enjoying themselves questing and slaying monsters regardless of which option you choose. Overall, World of Warcraft definitely deserves a 10/10 rating.
