The Playstation 3 Gaming Console was released just shortly after Sony announced the end of the Playstation 2's production in early 2006. The Playstation3 Gaming Console was designed to answer many of the needs of gamers across the world, by introducing advanced Blu-Ray technology and capabilities for up to 60 gigabytes in hard drive space. Many people firmly believe that the Playstation 3 Gaming console is one that will last for a good long while, and for good reason. The only disappointing aspect of the Playstation 3 Gaming Console is the price in my opinion, because it is hard to want to shell out nearly $600 for anything, let alone a video gaming console. But the success of this console is proof positive that people will pay pretty much anything for good technology. 

Here are some of the factors which make the new Playstation 3 Gaming Console well worth what Sony is asking for it:

• The Playstation3 features highly technical high definition (HD) technology with much improved graphic capabilities compared to former Playstation models. The Playstation 3 (PS3) also features the "cell" processor from IBM, along with another processor which grants the console the capability of making as many as two-trillion calculations per second.

• All of the games which are released for the Playstation3 gaming console are being encoded using the new Blu-Ray compact discs, which have the capability for holding more than six times as much data as a typical CD. The executives at Sony are predicting that this new technology is going to lead to the return of many old favorites, as well as the introduction of many new game franchises as well. Combining the Playstation 3's powerful processor with the high-tech Blu-Ray technology is offering new, more intricate gaming experiences to many die-hard fans that are looking for better graphics.

• The Playstation3 gaming console is completely backwards compatible with all Playstation and Playstation 2 (PS2) games, which means you do not have to worry about all the problems that XBOX 360 users are experiencing with older games refusing to work on the newer console. The Playstation 3 gaming console effectively replaces the Playstation and Playstation 2, which in my opinion makes it more than worth the price tag. This way, you do not have to replace all of the games you previously purchased for older consoles!

• The Playstation3 gaming console comes equipped with a hard drive, a memory slot for SD (Secure Digital), Compact Memory Flash, and for Memory Stick Duo as well.

• The PS3 gaming console also offers online capabilities much in the same way that the Xbox 360 offers connectivity between other players over the internet. With your Playstation 3, you can either play your PS3 games online with other players or you can download exclusive content over the internet. The Playstation 3's multi-player online concept is attracting new players to the table as it tries to compete with the ever-popular computer gaming aspect.

• The PlS3 also comes equipped with a new controller that is meant to be intuitive in many ways. When playing games, many hardcore games have a habit of intuitively moving their whole bodies or just their hands, even when these movements are not actually affecting the game play in any way. Sony took this quirk and morphed it into an interesting new special feature on their Playstation 3controllers. The Playstation 3's "Six axis" or "6-axis" controller has a super-precise sensing system which allows games to be controlled by precise movements. The technology behind this new innovative controller says a lot for the future of gaming consoles and controllers.

• The larger model is well worth the money that must be invested in other to secure one, but if you cannot find a way to convince yourself to spend that much money, opt for the base model which features a 20 gigabyte hard drive rather than a 60 gigabyte hard drive, for $499 instead of $599. Personally, I think the extra 40 gigabytes is worth an extra $100.

The Playstation 3 gaming console is one of the newest, hottest gaming consoles available on the market today. It would be hard to get a gamer to admit that there is anything better than the Playstation 3.
